Released to mark the 80th Anniversary of 'VE Day' on the 8th of May, this of course stands for 'Victory In Europe' and on this day in 1945 it marked the end of WWII hostilities in Europe.
The image itself is a nod to JJ's original 'Britannia Row' concept, reflecting different classes and eras of British people, as well as their position in society over the years but all queueing for the bus! However, their 'shadow' reflects their various military roles that all contributed to winning the war in 1945.
I love the addition of the dressed down late Queen Elizabeth II, the Puck Rocker, the man in the bowler hat that looks like comedy actor Terry-Thomas and the 'Keep Calm And Carry On' poster on the wall.
The iconic poster, although reimagined multiple times in the last decade by several of our artists, was actually from 1939 and produced by the British government in preparation for WWI & the demands that would be placed on the populous.
In a lovely hand finished 'Union Jack' graffiti sprayed frame!
