Tony’s artistic journey began early, completing his first paying commission at just 11 years old! Encouraged by a lifelong passion for creativity, he studied illustration at university but soon chose to focus on his own unique vision. After years balancing other careers, including the Ambulance service, Tony committed fully to art a decade ago, dedicating himself with renewed focus and energy.

Artistic Style and Inspirations

Primarily working in oil paint, Tony sometimes uses acrylic underpaintings, appreciating how oils behave layered over acrylics. His style blends loose yet deliberate brushwork with carefully placed contrasts to create depth and ambiance. His figurative paintings focus on capturing fleeting moods and intimate moments, employing a spontaneous technique that retains emotive elements.

Tony draws inspiration from observing the natural world—oceans, landscapes, skies—and studying people’s body language and expressions to uncover narrative and emotion. One of Tony’s recent projects involves capturing skies and landscapes seen from altitude, inspired by his passion for flying his paramotor. Experiencing the atmosphere, light, and shifting cloudscapes from thousands of feet offers him unique perspectives, which he translates into vivid, large-scale paintings. He makes detailed notes and small sketches immediately after flying to preserve the memory and feeling, then expands these into expressive artworks.
