Bright, bubbly and quirky canvases, Sam manages to capture the uniqueness of every breed and there is a special vibrancy that her works imbues into the dogs.
Currently residing in Cambridge, Samantha Ellis works from home in her own purpose-built studio and this allows her a certain level of tranquillity, which she feels is paramount to her painting process. Having a love for art and drawing since childhood, she was always ambitious enough to experiment and paint and eventually studying art at school & later at foundation level. She then made the decision to teach herself to ‘paint properly’ and with this momentum behind her she quickly snowballed into becoming a professional artist.
Her limited edition prints feature highly detailed compositions, with a sense of flow, energy & striking colours. Ellis actually paints from a mixture of photos and good old imagination! sometimes creating her impression of an actual place while others may combine elements of different scenes; ‘letting loose and having fun’ is how Samantha describes it and it is clear the ‘process’ is one of the most important elements to her art.
Her early 2017 limited edition Canine series of eleven popular breeds revealed her passion for Canine art and her immense love of dogs. These quirky and highly detailed compositions are eye catching with bold background colours. However, it is the expression of the dogs’ faces, capturing how they are feeling, which collectors most are drawn to. Her loose brush stroke style is now highly recognisable, and her fan base is growing in the UK and overseas.
Sam's 2013 debut releases of five limited releases concentrated on iconic UK vehicles including: the Mini Cooper, VW Beetle, VW Camper Van and London Red Routemaster Bus, with big Ben & Parliament in most of the backgrounds. Loose and free flowing, the paintings make you feel as though Samantha's brush has just left the canvas, offering you the viewer an instant fresh perspective on art.
