Scottish roots and early training
Rae studied painting at Edinburgh College of Art from 1961 to 1965, developing a confident, expressive approach to drawing and colour. A travel scholarship soon after graduation took her to France and Spain, where intense light, heat and architecture left a lasting imprint on her palette and composition.
