You may remember Robert Mars on our website, as he was previously published by Washington Green Fine Art in the late noughties & released best-selling portfolios of prints featuring Marilyn Monroe and Elvis - very distinct looking art with lavish colouring.
He has recently been signed once again by Buckingham Fine Art in October 2022, with his originals and limited edition art distributed to selected fine art galleries & resellers here in the UK.
The artist brings an immense talent and strong following to our portfolio, and he remains fascinated by 1950s & 1960s eras as well as all things Americana. He manages to prize historical everyday objects and icons with his own blend of modernism and intriguing design ideas.
His attention to detail of this almost American forgotten history & his skill at incorporating colours, fonts and vintage materials from the time, has seen his name mentioned with other Pop Art masters such as Richard Diebenkorn & Andy Warhol.
Taking this celebration of 50s and 60s American pop culture and famous figures from the time, Mars has been able to diarise the emerging post war fascination with celebrity.
In the last decade his art has developed once again, as Robert looked into American folk art and contemporary quiltmakers, to see US culture from another artistic angle. I believe Mars if the very first artists to incorporate such folk & quilt themes into Pop Art, and this fusion is now a new art genre he is recognised as creating!
Before becoming a professional artist. Mars was, like many of his contemporise a graphic design by trade and this influence is reflected in almost all of his artwork.
Robert completed his studies at the Parsons School of Design (known colloquially as ‘Parsons’) in Greenwich Village in New York City and has exhibited all over the globe including: London, Amsterdam, Munich, Tokyo and all over the United States.
