From Apprentice Draughtsman to Full-time Artist
After leaving school at 16, Paul trained as an apprentice draughtsman — a role that led him to design graphics for conferences around the world. While the work paid the bills, it was never enough to satisfy his creative ambitions. By 1997, he made the bold decision to leave the corporate world and commit fully to painting. His portfolio already featured a wide variety of subjects — motorbikes, wildlife, fantasy scenes — but it was his dog paintings, launched through his first publisher, that found a new audience.
Paul signs with Sally Mitchell Fine Art
Paul then met & signed on with the team at Sally Mitchell Fine Art publishers, the same company that would have other established dog artists on board, including Mick Cawston and John Trickett.
He would go on to enjoy successful & enduring relationship with Sally Mitchell, which saw him produce vast a catalogue of limited-edition prints & greeting cards sold in the UK and beyond, including by us at various country shows & Crufts dog show!
His debut print, a touching black labrador titled 'Watching', marked the start of a rapidly successful series. Prints sold out, collectors responded enthusiastically — and by 2004, one of his works was even accepted into the prestigious The Royal Kennel Club Gallery in London.
