Nigel Humphries is a British artist new to the world of published limited edition prints but an already successful & experienced oil painter of: toys, old school sweets and - with his latest set of 8 prints on our website - Superheroes!
Childhood is at the very essence of Humphries’s artwork and with immense attention to detail and character to his paintings he wants them to be seen as lighthearted and to bring smiles to people’s faces; there are also very much a cheeky nod to the past & to your own fond memories of growing up.
Nigel intends for his limited edition prints to appeal to all ages, to those with an eye for detail & fun and for his art to be seen as somewhat unconventional - but not too whacky. The artist feels he has succeeded in making his artwork simplistic without the need for explanation, yet his skill with the paintbrush is very evident to the viewer. Take a look at his interpretation of Spiderman & the Incredible Hulk and let us know if you agree?
Humphries is actually one of those special breed of self taught artists & who has enjoyed drawing since childhood in Stoke-On-Trent, UK. He has certainly travelled though the artistic genres of subjects: people, animals, trains, old school toys & sweets and currently Super Heroes. Interestingly he seeks inspiration from Alex Ross, of American DC and Marvel comic fame & whom also successfully transitioned into published limited edition prints in the UK by the same publishing house, Washington Green.
Time will tell if Nigel becomes an established name in the modern naive art field, we will very much be staying tuned, Superman cape at the ready!
