With his new releases for 2019, hand embellished box canvases, he has imbued them with a wonderful lattice effect using a particular symbol to representative the iconic person being painted.
'Like A Prayer,' features Madonna and the symbol is a cross. 'When Doves Cry' is of course Prince and his own former name 'symbol' is used. 'Thin White Duke’ is David Bowie and has the Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt. Lastly 'Noughties Playboy' has Kate Moss, and the Playboy bunny is the symbol.
Holdsworth art has a striking boldness and although they are clearly reworkings of world famous photography, there is something deeply personal and interpretive here, a great tribute to the star’s status in Pop Culture and in the lives of their man fans around the world.
