Mark Grieves was born in 1971 in North Shields. It was the place where his happy childhood memories were created, and the place where he earned a reputation for being a daydreaming schoolboy with a lack of concentration. Although his report cards didn't always read well, he did have an interest in art from an early age. However after having a bit of a clash with an art teacher, Grieves severed his relationship with art as a school subject and ultimately ruined his chances of getting into college.
Luckily for Mark Grieves, he managed to find his way into the world of photography, which once again opened up a window back into the art world. His experience within photography didn't go to waste however, as through his artwork you can clearly see where and how his skills have been translated from one field to another.
Just like he has an eye for photography, Grieves is able to imagine how to best fill the canvas with his artistic ideas. He has a keen eye for lines and shapes, and the way that light, shadow, and contrast is created; all of which are aspects that feature heavily in Mark's artwork. The little figures in his paintings are always the last thing to be added, and as claimed by Mark Grieves himself, they are what bring his artwork to life.
