Sidoli is a self taught artist, which is vital for the works he creates as he believes there is no preconceived ideas as to how or what something should look like and simply pushes boundaries within his creations not allowing technique nor subject matter to restrict his way of creating.
Born into an artistic Anglo Italian family, Sidoli from a young age loved noting more than to be creative by drawing and painting. To get to where he is today professionally, the artist creates works like no other and this is seen with the mixed variety of mediums he frequently works with to create unique and inspirational pieces. This was best seen in 2010 when one of Sidoli's political works was shown in Parliament and was to be 'named and shamed'. However this pleased the artist greatly as it challenged, created controversy, split opinions and ideas and this, in the artist's eyes, is exactly the role that art is suppose to play.
Before Sidoli was the successful artist in whom he is today, his professional career saw him in the car industry in which he worked for worldwide brands such as BMW, Land Rover and Mini. Whilst working in the car industry, the artist realized how the individuals who owned these particular cars were self made and this then inspired the artist to follow his passion and strive towards his real dream which was to be creative and become an artist.
Setting up his own workshop and supplying high street chains with his glassworks saw the beginning of his successful career really take off and showed the emergence of cityscapes in fused glass of both London and New York. This has since progressed to his most powerfully dynamic collection entitled 'Most Wanted' and this tributes Warhol's sex, drugs and rock n roll popular culture works.
Full of opinions and clear directions in the way he wishes to convey art and the meaning he wants to transpire to their viewers, Sodoli takes snippets of the news and uses his surroundings and influences. Warhol is a huge inspiration to the artist and he was first introduced to his works whilst growing up listening to David Bowie. On Bowie's 'Hunky Dory' Album the singer references Warhol and this sparked interest in Sodoli. His own collection of 'Most Wanted' features twelve iconic faces of the twentieth century of men who have had their fare share of controversy and it is with their rebelliousness that the artist interestingly depicts them for his own creations.
Mixing mediums is how the artist works best. Whether this is photography, stencilling, drawing, painting, glass work or screen printing, the element of experimenting and always discovering something new and innovative is what drives the artist and this is why his work is certainly unique and innovative when it comes to approaching contemporary art today.
