Katy Jade Dobson is among one of the first waves of published artists who gained popularity initially through their social media. Her following grew organically using her social media, including Facebook, to create a strong interest in her artistic development and her journey from budding artist to a published one, appearing in UK galleries up and down the country and beyond!
Her use of multi-coloured paints and imagery has given Katy a unique and instantly recognizable style and what you will find incredible is her ability to adapt this art composition to different subjects: floral, figurate, birds, animals (including big cats and endangered species) and even the Queen in ‘Her Majesty’: and Koi Carp in ‘Koi.'
As you may have seen, Katy has painted in a number of different mediums over time, most noticeably in watercolour paint but also acrylic and ‘mixed media,’ which is an umbrella term, so she clearly likes to experiment - another element that keeps her work fresh & dynamic. As her work became more popular, in particular the animal art, she leaned towards oil paints; Katy was attracted by the breath of colour pallet and indeed texture she could gain with the use of oil.
Katy has lived across the UK, hailing from Yorkshire and eventually moving to Lincoln to study at University. It would seem her fame came about organically, testing the market by attending art events around the UK and self-promoting, including the aforementioned social media and she received much adulation for her stylised wildlife art.
Signing with Wishbone Art Publishers, gave Dobson the artistic reassurance she was looking for and she then took the plunge and began her foray into her other passion: figurative art. Since then her artwork has really leaped into the stratosphere and moved into hand embellishment and more abstract colours, imbuing her artwork with passion, realism and emotion that leaps from the paper.
She is now picking up the pace with her appearance schedule in UK Galleries, meeting her public and promoting her latest limited edition releases and originals and more importantly for Katy, gaining valuable artistic feedback on her paintings – a step so crucial for artists.
We wish Katy well and applaud in particular, her painting focusing on endangered species and the much needed work that needs to be done to protect vulnerable animals.
Her latest landmark is her first retrospective hardback book called ‘Phosphenes’, featuring the last 2 years of her art work, congratulations Katy!
