Andres Garcia Ibanez has always dreamed of being an artist. His mother recalled that he had begun to paint, even before he could walk! His grandfather, who was regarded as a 'Leonardo Da Vinci' from his village (a painter, gilder, carpenter, watchmaker, sculptor, printmaker and musician), taught him to paint as a child and, at age 13, began Copying the work of the great masters of Greco, Velazquez and Rembrandt.
At the age of 16, had studied and copied each of the paintings by Goya and, the following year, he was ready to develop their own style and subject matter. In 1989, he began to exhibit his work, with several group shows across Spain. Again this year, he was awarded the first prize in the prestigious' Young Painters Andaluces' contest (Young Painters of Andalusia).
While studying painting and the great masters, Ibanez studied at the University of Navarra, completing a degree in architecture in the city in 1996. Since then, he has participated in more than 20 group exhibitions throughout Spain, as well as over 30 one man shows across Europe. His first publication, 'Hablando de Goya: Appearances and Descubujos', a critical analysis of the 18th century master of Spanish painting, was published in 1991.
Ibanez had the privilege of completing several important works for religious establishments during his career. In 1993, there was a painting of St. Peter's Basilica, Rome, and in the same year, the official inauguration took place in the Vault of the Chapel of Hope in Malaga. This was followed two years later by Ibanez the first painting of the Cathedral of San Salvador. 'The Crucifixion' joined seven other works, which were commissioned by the Cathedral in 1996. In 1997, completed an altar of the Cathedral of San Salvador, as well as eight paintings from the Basilica de la Merced in Madrid.
Also spent time working in his most prestigious commission to date of the Republic of El Salvador in Central America, a painting contest for the Vault of the cathedral, which covers an area of 1,000 square meters and with ' The Salvation Of The World '.
Ibanez has received many accolades and awards for his work, including the 1999 National Medal of UNICEF to carry out its work of the charity. His paintings are included in many impressive private collections worldwide.
