Helen Rhodes acquired a First-Class Honours Degree in textile design from Loughborough College of Art, and soon after graduating began working as a full-time artist.
It was not long before her intriguing originals caught the attention of UK art publishers and galleries alike, and so did her curious and humorous series of cat characters that she would paint onto them!
The artist’s popularity is due to a distinctive combination of simple yet familiar imagery, a touch of humour and wonderfully soft & textured rich colouring.
Some of Helen’s artistic inspiration comes from her fascination with the history of textile design, in particular that of the Elizabethan Era (1558–1603). The torn edges of each of her originals pay homage to this, as well as creating a unique and distinct finish to her paintings.
Helen Rhodes has received several prestigious commissions including Queens Bone China, who asked to produce six cup designs amongst other porcelain. In 1994 and 1995, she won the Imperial Cancer Research: Christmas Card Competition.
As a younger painter she won ‘Artist Of The Year’ in 1998 and as you see she is never short of dazzling new ideas. Unsurprisingly, the artist has a very loyal fan base, with new people discovering Helens art & huge back catalogue of limited editions prints all the time; 1000s of Helen’s limited editions prints, silkscreens and originals are being enjoyed and are hanging in the homes of the UK art buyers and beyond.
