Fletcher's sculptures stemmed from her admiration of clay and her studies enabled her to pursue what was to become her professional career as a sculptor in later life.
Growing up in a remote rural village situated in the Midlands, UK, artist Fletcher took her first steps to becoming the artist she is today with her achievement in obtaining a first class Honours in Applied Arts. This saw her relocate to Cumbria and then onto York. From her experiences she began work as an independent artist.
Body language, movement, progression, growth and changes which occur through the process we all experience as humans are the themes and subjects matters in which her work has carried through today. This first stemmed through her experiences of life drawing classes during her A level art class and to this day remains a huge part of her work.
Artists of inspiration include Klimt, Rodin as well as cave art and Assyrian Friezes. The processes of her work stems from her sketch book which includes any ideas, inspirations, research for her next works. The artist sketches and then uses wire to compose her idea adding experimental elements with clay and glaze. The figures are then built up with her molding and manipulating the flat clay to shape the figure and this is credit to her hand made craft. After being left to dry, Fletcher fires, glazes and then re fires until she reaches the final desired result.
