First released in September 2017, Harry Bunce's - The Happy Year Collection (new additions released monthly from then on), inspired by the calendar months of the year, really put him on the map as one of Britain's premier hare artists.
Now, a published artist for nearly 10 years, the name Harry Bunce is inextricably linked to rather unique paintings of bunny rabbits (British hares), as well as other animals such as badgers & foxes in their natural environment.
**Short voiceover interview with the artist (2017)
Harry’s art is reminiscent us of the illustrations that accompanied Beatrix Potter’s stories (which incidentally she created herself) but with a far more contemporary feel & with more layered messaging and meaning.
His work reminds me personally of the Oliver Twist inspired series of animal caricatures painted by the late Mick Cawston (1959-2006) & the limited edition 'Fagin' of a lurcher springs to mind, one of the UK’s most beloved Country Artist and that of fellow country artist William Geldart.
Interestingly, Harry considers himself an environmental and has a desire to maintain Britain’s countryside, so he also seems himself aligned with conservationist inspired art, such as the work of the late David Shepherd (1931-2017) and contemporary wildlife artist Paul James. It is important to him to paint these animals and keep them & their fate in the public consciousness.
**Show reel of Harry's artwork:
An artist who profile has steadily grown since 2012 when he became a published artist and his limited editions and original art started to appear in UK gallery windows, he has been published by Wishbone Fine Art & later Buckingham Fine Art publishers in the 2010s.
Hailing from the county of Hampshire in the UK he moved and set up home in Bristol and began a career initially in the fashion industry, while painting as much as he could in his spare time.
His art was further developed by a chance meeting with Screen One Printers (who have printed for such greats as Banksy), who advised Harry to add a more graphical tone to his paintings and has resulted in a much more cutting edge feel in his commercially published art his many fans enjoy today!
Circa 2017/18, Harry has also exhibited in the USA, within prestigious East Coast galleries in New York.
