Bradford-born artist Darren Baker has made quite a name for himself in the art world, and is now considered one of the leading painters of the classical realism genre. After graduating from Art College in his hometown, Baker was fortunate enough to exhibit his work in London, followed shortly by a showing of his art at a New York event.
Since his early days, Darren Baker's contemporary figurative paintings have become highly sought after by both British and International art collectors alike. His almost photographic style of painting has led to various sporting commissions, including an impressive portfolio of portraits on the likes of Jonny Wilkinson, Prince Naseem, Lewis Hamilton, David Ginola, and Peter Schmeichel to name a few.
He was also appointed the official artist of 'The Professional Footballer's Association' (PFA). Off of the back of his artistic talent that has been recognise and praised within the sporting world, Baker is also set to be the official artist for the London 2012 Olympics.
Baker's works are also admired by the House of Lords, top Politicians, and even the Royal family. His non-sporting portrait portfolio includes Tony Blair, His Royal Highness Princes Charles, and soon to add to this impressive list, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who he is to paint by Royal appointment during the summer of 2011.
Most dedicated Artists work towards a particular objective; at the moment Darren seems to be perfecting his already astonishingly realistic techniques. He can draw or paint anything; his portfolio includes figurative work, ballet, still life, interiors, animals, landscapes and sport. Darren has also been appointed official Artist to the Professional Footballers Association.
One glance at Darren's work is sufficient to realise that his main influence derives from 17th century Northern Europe, especially from the Great Dutch period and the interiors of Vermeer. In the world of modern Art that seems to focus on unmade beds, tents and elephant dung this makes Darren an oddity for which he remains very unapologetic.
His work is highly collectable because there is no mystery about it, every piece is executed with artistic brilliance; all immaculately rendered in either pastel or oil paint.
