Spring 2021 will also see the upcoming launch of the 'Chess Blue Skies - Collection' ❤️ and we are immensely excited to see it!
Today launches the Chess Originals Collection - January 2021 with ten gorgeous originals artworks featuring: Peaky Blinders, 50s Pin Ups & a quartet of Wildlife images - 15th January 2021
Once again, these originals showcase her immense talent for bespoke Collages using actual newspaper articles and pages from magazines, she continues to gain ground as a master of this genre of original artwork. These ten have all sold within one day, but you can contact us for a similar commissions of any of her previous Originals, including the January collection!
Interestingly, each image comes with a certificate of authenticity listing the dates or names of books, the said newspaper and magazine pages Chess has used and have been pulled from.
We are pleased to launch artist Chess’s Winter 2020 Releases of four fantastic artworks and really showcases her ability to make stand out original art (contact us for commissions) - 2nd October 2020
The first of the Winter Releases is: 'Back To Back,' featuring the late & much loved Amy Winehouse (London born so extra special to us!) and this Collage is formed using genuine sheet music from 'Amy Winehouse: Piano, Vocal, Guitar: 6 of the Best.’
The remaining three are incredible wildlife pieces: 'Spotted' (Brown Hare), ‘Curiosity’ (Badger), ‘Territory’ (Highland Cow & looks to be a bull!); each collage has been created with pages from 'Collins Complete Guide to British Wildlife ' for amazing effect, as though the animals have leapt from its very pages!
November 9th 2019 will see artist 'Chess' begin the first leg of her artist appearance tour, in UK galleries for 2019-20; how apt that this is 1 day before Remembrance Sunday and Mondays's 'Remembrance Day' 2019 and her latest collection of work is in tribute to those brave servicemen & women that have lost their lives World Wars (and indeed all British servicemen).
The charity edition: 'The Last Post' will be her very first limited edition print and pre-orders have been strong.
The female artist known as 'Chess' remains a bit of an enigma in the UK art world but we can confirm she is real, lives in Wiltshire and has rather nice, flowing blonde hair!
Chess has been described as a 'British collage artist,’ a 'mixed media artist' and her art as 'modern portraiture' but whichever line you follow, she is doubtless a bright new star and Chess has had her originals feature in the front windows of UK high street galleries since 2018.
For her original paintings she uses a lot of mixed media, cut outs from newspapers (Tom Butler is a similar collage artist that comes to mind) and in some instances actual sheet music! to create & embellish her artwork. Like most modern portrait artists, she has a tendency to focus on iconic popular historical figures, as well as those from TV, Film & music - those embedded in the collective psyche.
As per her latest Nov 2019 original 'The Last Post,' once she has placed the cut-outs carefully onto the canvas to form a collage, she then begins the process of hand painting onto the canvas.
Her art is of course inspired by text and literature and of course newspaper articles, so its not surprising she has degrees in both Creative Writing and English Literature. She can pour over vast amounts of text before inspiration finally comes and her painting begins.
David Bowie, the iconic British music and film hero to so many, does seem to hold a special fascination for her and she returns countless times to create new & inspiring Bowie art.
The artist was signed by Essex (UK) based publisher Wishbone Fine Art in 2018 and she will embark on her first appearance in UK galleries, to meet her fans, starting November 2019 and into 2020. She can be followed on Instagram.
