Italian artist Antonio Sannino is already well established as a sort after oil painter. He is known internationally for subjects such as cityscapes & landscapes, not just the bestselling recent waterscapes limited editions we have been showcasing.
His latest limited editions releases for 2024 are: ‘Into the Blue -Triptych’, his first as a triptych (three windowed) and ‘In Full Bloom’, his first featuring colourful trees in blossom - we are beginning to see Antonio's versatility as an artist.
He will often paint Rome or London, as well as New York and the huge superstructure buildings, with their familiar shapes and geometry. He prefers to paint cityscapes without people but is still able to capture the energy & effervescent nature of the scenes with layered and subtle brush strokes, as well as illuminating lighting.
His initial limited editions ‘Shining Waters’ and ‘Towards The Deep’, showcase his incredible talent at depicting water, the shallows and its brilliant light reflections, blending impressionism with shades of photo-realism.
Carefully chosen colourways of blues and green blend seem to blend effortlessly into the water surface. What makes these even more astounding is that he is creating these canvases using oils!
The painting process starts with Antonio taking a series of photographs of the scene, continuing until he has captured perfect lighting and a ‘timeless’ moment. Going back to his studio, he paints on to aluminium panels (rather than canvas boards) & uses hands, brushes and other implements to work the paint on
Lastly, the shimmer that his paintings are known for, is created by a process of adding and removing colours during the painting process, something Antonio has mastered over time and perfected by being so ‘hands on’ with the painting mediums.
Now exhibiting the UK, he also had sell-out one man shows in Japan, Europe and North America (Miami & New York), many of his originals reaching £15,000 to just shy of the £20,000 mark as of 2024.
