A welcome return by Todd to this much loved festival, as he previously released on canvas prints and originals in the same genre in 2018, including the best selling: 'Dead Man's Hand' and 'Idle Hands.'
Born in 1969 in Texas, the artist gradually made his way towards Hollywood during his twenties and began a career in animation. Working for some of the most renowned in the business, White even became part of the animation for Sponge Bob Square Pants. It was during this period that White delved into developing his own unique style and this is the artist in which we see today. Naming his piece of art first and then building his composition around this enables the story to be built and visual stimulation to mount in his head.
Humour, satire, attraction and intimacy are all elements of White's work which has made him the successful contemporary artist he is today. The nature of White's work pushes boundaries and for most require a second look as he reveals the character's inner and darker thoughts for all to see. The accomplishment of White as an artist is fundamentally down to the raw truth of emotion and perfectly capturing a recognizable personality in which we see is all of his characters, whether it is a small part of you or someone you may know that is locked within his figurative works.
As with most artist, Todd White spends many an hour simply observing and people watching and is on the constant look out for his next work by simply recording down jots or scribbles onto napkins or odd bits of paper so that he can include his ideas for his next piece of work. What we show and what we hide is the main feature that drives the artist's work and it is with this awkwardness that he plays with the characters and compositions.
Gestures, poses and hands play a huge part in White's storytelling and this is what makes the artist stand out among his contemporaries. Working at prestigious events White was chosen among many at the Grammy awards in 2007 as their official artist. Warner Bros has also sought after the artist for their Wizard of Oz anniversary and in 2010 coca cola collaborated with Todd white to produce Limited Edition bottles and cans. More recently in 2011 he was awarded a gold medal after donating his Diana, Princess of Wales portrait to the Diana awards charity and has been the only American to be the recipient of this award. Still continuing to thrive on his success the artist creates and becomes ever more successful within today's art world.
