As usual, this latest collection is a stunning visual extravaganza featuring some of the artist’s favourite places to paint and indeed visit, including Iceland and the Himalayas!
The artist also has some special words for our emergency service workers & the series very apt naming: ‘This collection is dedicated to our amazing front line carers who go 'Above And Beyond' for us every day.’
Philip was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1959 and as a small child he loved painting and sketching. One of his earliest memories is being taught figurative drawing by a family friend Trevor Scott, founder of the famous National College of Art and Design, Dublin (previously the 'College of Art').
At age 16, Philip left school and joined the Irish Navy. Once qualified as a naval diver he began painting at sea and soon became prolific at painting scenes ‘from the sea’ such as the lush & varied landscapes of the Irish coastline.
He remains a very keen diver and many videos of his dives have been published online, are a great insight into his artistic inspirations, certainly of his ‘underwater’ paintings. His career gave him rather unique visual vistas of the coast, as seen aboard the Navy ships he served on and usually in the Atlantic Ocean.
The magic in the art of Philip lies, he believes, in his ability to use artistic creativity with the paintbrush as a natural form of communication.
With the extraordinary beauty of the mountainous west of Ireland as more inspiration for him, Philip’s art gives us the opportunity, if only momentarily, to remove ourselves from the chaos of our day to day lives and appreciate the beauty and stoicism of nature.
After a near two decades in the Navy and with much encouragement from his wife and family, Philip left his sea bound career and took the bold step of becoming a full time artist.
His continued success is very apparent, being showcased in galleries up and down the United Kingdom, Ireland & beyond and he has been named one of Ireland's most famous living artists.
He also has some famous name collectors including two former US presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush!
