Linda became an extremely popular published artists in the 1990s, with Washington Green fine art publishers distributing to UK, USA & other international galleries, and this would carry on into the 2000s.
After this successful partnership ended, she ventured out into other media: cards, puzzles, limited & open edition Sculptures to name but a few, becoming one of the earliest 'Gallery artists' to successfully make the transition to other licensing.
Her back catalogue of limited edition prints remain very popular and old & new collectors still endeavour to acquire more when available. 'LJS' (as she is sometimes refered to) artwork is on the wall of 1000s of homes in the UK & beyond.
Linda Jane Smith has always liked to draw and, as a child entered several art competitions and gained some great feedback! She eventually studied graphic design at the Bournville College of Art (now part of Birmingham City University, UK), which gave her discipline, skill and an added confidence to simply sit and paint, no matter the location.
As time went on her artistic talent developed, and this would allow her to bring together her two greatest passions, painting & cats!
There has always been a family cat in the Jane Smith households and in her early days as a published artist, her tortoiseshell cat ‘Jessie’ would often mosey on into her studio while Linda was sketching - before popping back out to sleep in the house!
She has always admired illustrators such as Nicola Bailey (b.1949 who specialises in cats too!) & Arthur Rackham (1867-1939, from the 'Golden Age' of illustration) and carried their love of beautiful refined small detail & of course a striving to achieve the same in her artwork.
