Kerry Darlington is one of the UK's most popular painters of contemporary Original and limited edition art, a position she has held for at least 15 years (as of 2020) and her paintings and prints have been on sale in UK galleries since at least the late 1990s.
**A short interview with Kerry:
Her 'published' art career began with her originals being distributed by 'Image Designs' of Harrogate to galleries and after a long and successful relationship, she changed distributor and went under the wing of Milton Keynes based 'Buckingham Fine Art.'
A few years on, and with increased success she decided to 'go it alone' and become a self-published (& self-distributed) artist to gain more autonomy as a painter, something that directly effects almost every artist's creativity and process.
Later she signed herself to 'Demontfort Fine Art' distributor in Litchfield, before finally returning to self-published status in October 2018 – to mark the occasion her first new release was the superb limited edition: 'Alice Finds The Little Door.'
The artist is known for several styles or themes in her art. Initially 'Image Designs' put her on the map with fantastic originals art simply called 'The Tree Of Life' and Kerry sold many 100s of variants of this theme - mixing up the colours of the: base of the paintings, the backgrounds and the hand-embellished pieces that made up the leaves of the trees.
Her abstract tree/art series was another tremendously sort after collection of originals. The top 30% of these paintings would show trees on the surface and the remaining below 70% of the canvas featured an abstract world below it (in the ground itself), often with resin paint colour of: red, brown, yellow and orange, with beautiful infusions of gold too!
Quirky pots and owls also proved a popular collection of originals that would again sell of the wall within days of being hung in galleries; often small pieces, they would provide an excellent price point for her growing fans in the noughties.
Clearly, Kerry is fascinated by rhyme, fairy tales and old children's storybooks - featuring sketches of mysterious beats, characters and adventures in far off places.
Her love of Steampunk style & iconography is a theme she has often visits in her original paintings, including the 'Eccentric Machines' series.
But it is her series featuring Lewis Carroll's characters from his book: 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865),' also known by the Disney film adaption name 'Alice In Wonderland' (1951), that arguably catapulted her fully into the British consciousness with the large size & brazenly colourful limited editions for which is most famous.
Did you know that Kerry coined her own name for her limited editions and calls them 'Unique' editions, namely because each piece gains so much hand embellishment, painting, glossing & finishing that it lies somewhere in between a limited edition and an original piece of art, which each individual limited slighter 'unique' from the other – the 'Unique Edition' name is near perfect for her work wouldn’t you agree?
Kerry was born in North Wales and she distributes and sends her art to galleries from her base, in the picturesque seaside town of Prestatyn in Denbighshire.
