Colin is based just outside of Salisbury in the UK and is known for his eye-catching abstract paintings of landmarks & cityscapes, such as Paris, Venice, New York & London. Often, he will turn his brush to local scenes including Cambridge, Chichester and Salisbury to name but a few, with fabulous buildings such as Cathedrals!
Painting in his studio from reference photos, Colin will decide on the cityscape or scene (e.g. from a customer provided images) including different angles or perspective on his previous art or famous streets in the area.
Do make contact if you want any landscape, view or previously sold original recreated for you by Colin, his waiting list is open.
Colin signed with a national art publisher in 2020 and, as a result, his artwork has reached a wider UK & international audience. He has also released his first ever limited editions within the ‘Colin Brown - Limited Edition Collection,’ which are beautiful on canvas giclees.
He has a rather unique way of creating his artwork. Firstly, he primes his canvases with a red painted background, and then outlines the picture including buildings and cloud formation, with black and white thin line marks, usually done with paint & a brush.
Once that stage is finished, he will flip the painting upside down (and the reference photos) and then he begins applying coloured paint, as this allows him to focus on the colours and contrasts rather than the subject itself, and it really helps him with the formation of his abstract style.
Having trained in design, illustration (and worked in both fields) as well as architectural drawings, he likes to focus on lines and shapes, and that plays a key role in the wonderful style he has developed & the interesting shapes that fill his canvases!
