Born in Nottingham in the 1960s, Cecil Rice graduated from the famous Brighton Art College (now part of the University Of Brighton) in 1983 and has been an acclaimed professional ‘fine artist’ for over five decades, specialising in watercolour.
Known for his atmospheric and vibrant landscapes often featuring famous cities and architecture, Cecil has a particular passion for Italy and especially Venice, which he visits regularly. In fact, the artist has travelled extensively, including to Turkey and North Africa and wherever he goes he likes to capture the scenery through sketching and painting!
In terms of the painting process, Cecil will often sketch scenes in pencil while travelling and time allowing may paint them ‘on location.’ However, often he will return to his studio and in combination with his sketch books and numerous photos taken (as guidance), will start the watercolouring process.
He has had exhibitions across the United Kingdom, including a famous sell out show in a Cork Street Gallery (2002) London, Brighton and others as far afield as Japan!
